What Makes Social Media The Web’s Traffic Autobahn
There’s No Speed Limit!
The explosion of social sites makes this super highway to reach prospects and if you are not already doing so, you should use it to drive traffic back to your website. What’s important to understand is not so much the social sites but social media.
Here’s the difference….
Social sites are the sites where you go to find the media. Social sites would be sites like YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Social Media would be more like video, blogs, microblogging, articles, podcasts, etc. The media is nothing more than a way to communicate with people on a certain topic. Your topic should be what your customers are looking for. Let’s start with this question…. what do you sell?
Are you a photographer? Well maybe you can share tips on how to take good photography for weddings if you are in that niche. Maybe you can help people choose a good photographer. Leverage the fact that your content will be viewed worldwide. People with local services don’t get this part. They get stuck on the mentality of “well I live in california and people from NY are reading my content”.
Well here’s the piece they are missing. When you get high visitors, you get high relevance which in turns helps your SEO.
There must be a balance between how general you write and how specific you write. It’s best to blend the two, meaning you should put out one very specific piece of content and one more general piece of content. What happens here is that specific content doesn’t drive as much traffic as general but it sells more and vice versa. You need traffic to improve SEO, but you need specifics to sell.
The problem with Social Sites?
Big time waster!
You must learn how to manage your time when using this powerhouse to drive traffic to your website. The best way to do that is by creating high value content. When you write high value content you increase your chances of the content going viral and therefore get more traffic. You don’t want to create content and not get any traffic. You will be disappointed and quit before you see how powerful this can be. Not only that but take a video I created a while ago. It has received thousands of views and more importantly driven high quality traffic back to my website which has resulted in hundreds of leads.
Here’s my math. I spend about $5-$10 per lead on Google AdWords. If I can get 100 leads off a piece of content that took me 20 minutes to create then that means my work was worth about $150 an hour. (A penny saved is a penny earned)
