The Science Of Writing Headlines
Four Elements To Consider When Writing Your Headline To Increase Your Readership
In just about any company with a Human Resources department, it is very well known that if you take in your resume, it will not be looked at unless it catches their attention within the first few seconds. In the very same way, your landing pages and sales letters will not be looked at unless it catches their attention in the first few seconds…. (that’s the importance of the headline)…
First element to consider is uniqueness…. what sets you apart?
Are you offering a business opportunity just like everyone else and their brother? If so, you are just lined up like all the shiny apples at the store getting picked out of convenience if at all. Your product doesn’t have to be new, or your opportunity doesn’t have to be new to write a headline. You simply must write it in a new fresh way.
The next element to consider is the timeliness…. why should they stop whatever they are doing, bolt the door, shut off their cell phone and give you their immediate attention?
The most precious commodity is time. Most people wish they could only have more time. Thanks to the internet, consumers are now bombarded with advertisements and sales pitches everywhere and you must quickly differentiate yourself, and must give them a strong reason for them to stick around long enough to hear your story and become a fan of yours (or buy from you)
The third element to consider is how specific you are….. what exactly are you offering me?
The home based business industry is notorious for being secretive about what exactly is it that you’ll be doing once you join. Most headlines are just as vague and do not tell exactly what is it that they offer you. In your headline, you should include facts and be as specific as you can. It should be your sales pitch. Think of the most important thing you would say to your reader that if they read that, they would be hooked?
Last, and probably the most important is what does your offer do for your reader….. what’s in it for them?
I know you want to make a sale as much as I do, but it’s not about you, it’s about your customer. You should focus on how you can help your customer, and the more you do that with no hold backs, the more successful you’ll become. In your headline, be sure to tell the reader why reading your sales letter is going to be useful to them
Here’s the example:
“Your Home Sold in 27 Days Guaranteed* Or I’ll Buy it!”
This is very specific, it’s about the seller selling their home, and definitely unique. So, go back and try to include at least 3 of these elements into your headlines and watch readership increase
