Insomniac Tales Of An Entrepreneur
Sleepless I write tonight. This time is not frustration or brain-racking worries keeping me wide awake. It’s an epiphany. A revelation. It’s an unveiling lesson I learned that was right under my nose and is probably holding you back as well.
I remember the days when I dreaded waking up to a day filled with cold calling and risking getting blacklisted by my own friends and family who didn’t want to hear about my business. The days when I used to drive to the hotel meetings thinking that I was doing something wrong because my hard work wasn’t showing any results. Those days are long gone, yet they remain very close to me.
New people join us in the entrepreneurial journey we all find ourselves in. I don’t understand why but more of them are taught ineffective ways to market. It doesn’t help that we are human and it’s in our nature to seek instant gratification. We tend to try a diet for a week, a self develpment technique for a week, a business venture for a week…. we don’t see results immediately and give up. Then we go around saying “Stay away, this doesn’t work”.
One of the best things to ever happen to me was discovering the need to grow. The day I accepted success as a long term process and not my idealized and very much desired magic-pill event. The day I found a passion for self growth and worked on learning how I could create value in the lives of others as well as forget about making money was the day my business started to grow.
The big eye-opener I had (and you might want to make a note of this) was that I was looking for prospects like me. People who had already “seen the light”. I know what it was like to worry about not having a penny to advertise my business. Beware! The people who need you the most are the ones that remind you of your old self. You need to first improve yourself and then help others catch up.
Yes, it can be frustrating to deal with our old selves but the fulfillment you get when you see others change for the better thanks to you is priceless and is worth more than any money you make.
