How MLM And Network Marketers Are Finding Success In Today’s Highly Competitive Market
There really isn’t a secret to becoming successful in this industry. The problem as you’re going to find out is that there’s too much information and a lot of it stinks. If you can’t tell good from bad, you’ll be steered in the wrong direction.
History helps us avoid mistakes which is why I’ve always spent time researching the history of important topics to my business. This time, I researched Direct Response Marketing.
Marketing is simply the art of selling long distance. Direct response marketing is a subgroup of marketing and the way to tell if it’s direct response marketing is if it has a ‘specific call to action’, such as “call for a free recorded message, mail back this coupon, or leave your name and email address”…..
So let’s go back in time a little bit to really understand this…
In the early 1900’s John was a door-to-door book salesman. He loved what he did and knew people so well, he had no problem getting rid of his inventory of encyclopedias.
This is a key point to understand…
John was not big on persuasion or convincing people to buy his stuff. Instead, he asked the right questions upfront to qualify his prospect and moved forward if it met his criteria of what he considered a hot prospect.
One day, John fell sick and could not get up and go door to door. He still needed to pay bills and put food on the table, so he had to find a way to sell. He knew exactly what to ask people and what to say to them afterwards in order to sell. So he sat down and wrote a letter. It started with the question he always asked and then wrote everything else he would normally say exactly how he said it. It was routine, canned, scripted, every time, and it worked like a charm. He then took this letter, and printed a thousand copies. He mailed them to the same houses he was planning on going during the next few days.
When the results came back, John found that he got roughly the same amount of orders he would selling in person. John had discovered a way to sell long distance, by sending a letter instead of himself.
From that moment on John realized the amount of leverage he had and spent the rest of his life selling long distance and finding ways to optimize his letters. He tested different ways of phrasing his question, sending letters to specific demographics, etc. Direct response marketing has evolved ever since….
Fast forward to today, the rules have changed once again. With direct mail, it’s possible to measure results, however it’s hard to measure the negative effects. You may mail 1000 letters and make a profit on the sales with a 3-5% return. However, the other 95% of people who didn’t buy, may become annoyed because they are not interested and you are sending them spam.
Well, with technology, it has become possible to show your letter only when people decide to do so. Thanks to Google PPC (Pay-Per-Click), you can now do exactly this. When someone types into Google “buy encyclopedia”, you know they want to buy an encyclopedia and if you know the right message to deliver to that person, you’ll get the sale.
This is the principle behind Laser Targeted MLM Leads. It’s what I hope you understand and start using to build your business.
