Are Hotel Meetings An Income Generating Activity?

Pointless! Time Away From Family! Non Income Generating Activity! Simply A Shameful Waste Of Your Time….

If you have been involved in network marketing, you’ve probably seen this. Like most network marketers I heard that not all who attend the meetings become top producers, but all top producers attend the meetings. Now I had convinced myself that going to hotel meetings will someday magically build my business. Persistence is the name of the game, but doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is simply insane.

Now let me try and make sense out of this…. How is a hotel meeting going to help me build my business?

Well the truth is that it’s not! My business is built on online marketing through social media and yes the old school newspaper advertising…. I don’t necessarily hate hotel meetings and actually do attend my local events for a couple of reasons. My biggest is because I’ve built a local team and well they need my support and I like my team. The most important one is actually to do market research. This is in my opinion a great way to get face to face with prospects and find out what they want and how they see your competition (aka other sales reps).

I find it interesting to see the turnover of sales reps over time. I see the same established top producers and new people come and go about every other month. Most network marketers don’t make it through their first year in business. Fear of failure makes them think that they need the motivation from the high energy hotel meetings. It’s their secret escape from reality, their way out of their 9 to 5 cubicle. It’s their weekly reminder that 99% of people fail and they want to think that because they are sticking to the program, they’re the 1% as they see new people come and go.

Wake up!

Going to hotel meetings is not what builds a business. Sales are needed to make any money. To make sales, people need to be talked to. Where do we find these people? You tell the world about you and your business…

Let me make a distinction…. your business is not the company you’re affiliated with. Your business is your expertise in either the product your company sells or in building a network marketing business…. In other words, you must be able to offer something unique. Telling people you have a business opportunity is NOT unique. Telling people you know how to generate hundreds of free leads using social networks and that YOU can show THEM how THEY can build THEIR business using your strategies…. that’s unique!

It’s ok to go to hotel meetings, but first make sure you have a handle on your MLM lead generation, lead conversion, sales, referral business and then do whatever you want with your time
